Cherry Winks

This is my grandmother's recipe.  This cookie was always a special treat at her home during the holidays.
2 1/4 cups flour
l teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening
l cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
l teaspoon vanilla
l cup finely chopped pecans
l cup finely chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries
extra maraschino cherries, halved
finely crushed corn flakes

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  In a separate bowl, cream the shortening and sugar.  Add the eggs, milk, vanilla and blend in.  Stir in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.  Fold in the pecans, dates and chopped cherries.  Form into balls and roll in crushed corn flakes.  Place on greased cookie sheet and top each with a halved cherry.  Bake in a 375 oven for approx. 12 minutes.

Yahoo! rating of the week:
Excellent- " Excellent product at a quite reasonable price - I could not find these items locally, even in the "gourmet" stores. Impressed with the shipping (fast and well packed) and the follow up as well." William E., Sausalito, CA.
