Manicotti - American Style

manicotti american style

This is a great pasta dish for family or company.  I use a bottled pasta sauce for convenience, but you can use your own favorite homemade pasta sauce.  Sometimes I add mushrooms to the sauce for variety.  Just use your imagination!

Ingredients

l jar (26 ounce) prepared pasta sauce (or use your own sauce)

l  pound lean ground beef

l 12 ounce package large manicotti shells for stuffing (sea shell shape)

l pound ricotta cheese

2 cups (8 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese

2 tablespoons snipped parsley

parmesan cheese

Directions
  1. Brown ground beef in medium saucepan.  Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc. Stir in pasta sauce.
  2. While sauce is simmering, bring large pot of salted water to boil.  Add shells to boiling water, and cook until barely tender or in accordance with package directions.  Drain shells in large colander, and rinse with cold water until ready to fill.
  3.  In medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and parsley.
  4. Pour thin layer of pasta sauce in bottom of 9 x 13 baking dish.
  5. Stuff shells with cheese mixture, and arrange shells side by side in a single layer in the baking dish.  Cover with remaining sauce.  Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  6. Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 30 - 40 minutes, until bubbly.  Delicious!

Yahoo! rating of the week:
Excellent- " Excellent product at a quite reasonable price - I could not find these items locally, even in the "gourmet" stores. Impressed with the shipping (fast and well packed) and the follow up as well." William E., Sausalito, CA.
