saucy chicken and asparagus bake

This easy casserole is a favorite of my husband's.
   
Ingredients  
1-1/2 pounds fresh asparagus spears, cut into 2 inch pieces
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
l can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1/2 cup mayonnaise
l teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
l cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese

 

Directions  
  1. Precook the chicken by browning in oil on both sides in a skillet, or by boiling in broth or water until cooked through. Cool chicken and cut into cubes - sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
  2. Place asparagus in greased baking dish.  Arrange chicken over asparagus.
  3. In a small bowl, combine soup, mayonnaise, lemon juice and curry powder; pour over the chicken.
  4. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes, until bubbly.  Sprinkle with cheddar cheese for the final 15 to 20 minutes of baking.
  5. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
