Stuffed Vienna Bread

Stuffed vienna bread

The crusty outside of this bread cradles a rich filling, and the loaf is easily cut into slices for serving.
 
   
Ingredients  
1large loaf uncut Vienna or French bread
2 sticks butter
2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
l tablespoon poppy seed
l teaspoon Lawry's seasoning salt
l teaspoon dry mustard
8 ounces shredded swiss sheese
2 small jars mushrooms, chopped

 

Directions  
  1. Cut bread down the length of the middle, 1/2 inch from bottom, and stopping 1/2 inch from each end.  Slice bread diagonally across the top (approximate l inch slices), stopping 1/2 inch from the sides, and 1/2 inch from the bottom.  Pull bread apart slightly. 
  2. Melt butter and seasonings in small heavy saucepan.  Place bread on aluminum foil.  Spoon butter mixture evenly into bread.  Bring foil up and around bread, covering completely.
  3. Bake 30 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.  Take out of oven and open foil.  Slice completely through slices of bread and serve warm.
